Moncler Gamme Bleu

Milan: Thom Browne’s off-kilter hand was immediately recognizable at the F/W 13 Moncler Gamme Bleu presentation, which found his models fighting a faux snowstorm kitted out in Highland tartans, fur-tail waist packs and thick cable knit outerwear. But although the theatrics of tradition served as Browne’s smokescreen, the modern hallmarks of the Moncler brand arrived in full force via cozy quilted jackets, vests and ski pants. Many of the pieces were hybrids, which sometimes worked (trousers with brass-button spat detailing) and sometimes didn’t (quilted blazers merged with pleated kilts looked just plain silly). Regardless, Browne committed to his theme and discovered several truly fresh ideas, including cable embossed tops, making for modern must-haves among the madness. —Nina Stotler
