At WGSN we’ve had our eye on the design work created by Nikki Farquharson. Farquharson, a London born and based graphic artist and illustrator, creates visually inspiring pattern and manipulated collage artworks.
Intense colouring, pen pattern work, and a creative mix of manipulated photographic collage is a movement that’s emerging in both handcrafted and digital forms. Nikki Farquharson’s bold artworks stand out with their unique, 80s colour palette-infused pattern construction.
Farquharson explains, “Mixed Media Girls are experimental works combining found imagery with personal illustration. The Mixed Media illustrations are initially inspired by the original photograph. I then alter the surroundings with abstract details and meticulous patterns. The final outcome is often playful and eclectic. The girl is either a prop to the pattern or just part of the canvas. I add the girl to put the patterns into context.’
Farquharson illustrates her works exclusively by hand with a mixture of fine pens and paper, her favourite medium. It gives her the most control and she enjoys the creative process.
