AGE OF INNOCENCE
Considering our culture’s obsession with youth and aging, Miuccia Prada played with the dichotomy using girlish prints on sophisticated silhouettes. Cats, dogs, doves and flowers came together with what seemed to be a Biba-influenced Deco-meets-disco sensibility, the various motifs appliquéd, sequined or printed on slim pantsuits and high-waisted skirts. Skin-baring crisscrossed tops, cutouts, sheer stretch chiffon and a reclining Beardsly-esque nude for a small repeat print confirmed that the collection was really for grown-ups. Shimmering paillettes in bright green, orange and silver mixed with crystals for shapes that curled around the bustlines of contrast-collared tops and dresses, some pieced with —or made completely from — nude sheers. With her always-complex ruminations on femininity, this season Miuccia Prada seemed to make peace with the opposing forces of sweetness and sexuality, youth and age, vintage and modern, sportswear and glamour, and incorporated it all into chic styles that reconcile art and fashion.
