COUNTER CULTURE CRAFT
Milan: After several seasons of controlled collections based on a single idea and multi-layered styling, Angela Missoni branched out for Fall, offering more options, new ideas and a wider range of silhouettes. The beach-bound hippies of last season evolved into patchwork and crochet-loving bohemians with a downtown hipster attitude. The patchwork pieces were a highlight, mixing pattern and color with an easy nonchalance, and granny square crochet dresses and tops cascaded from the body in asymmetrical shapes. Missoni also played with perceptions, stretching and contracting a check pattern for a trippy effect. Giant safety pins and heavy-duty zippers that ran down the backs of the garments indicated that the new Missoni girl has a rebellious streak, and plaid wrap skirts were a nod to 80s British punk. Blanket coats and roomy knit shorts were appealing new basics that will be must-haves for Missoni devotees. Angela Missoni’s compelling explorations of counter-culture have breathed new life into the brand, adding a contemporary edge to the beautifully crafted clothes.
