Milan: Angela Missoni drew inspiration from Mother Nature this season for a rich collection comprised of warm earth tones and dimensional layering. Garments had an organic patchworked look — a combination of textures and motifs evoking sedimentary swirls, mineral deposits, tree bark, rust and layers of soil. A variety of natural furs made for plush collars and trim, and were also worked into knit surfaces for added lushness. Lean silhouettes — skinny trousers, snug pencil skirts, slim sheaths — allowed for maximum layering, and leather or metallic turtleneck bodysuits served as modern underpinnings — an interesting contrast to fine, sheer fabrics or classic tweeds. Variegated yarns — space-dyed, mélange, ombré — lent subtle color variation to an assortment of signature Missoni knits. Protection, a key theme of the season, appeared in the form of tightly wrapped shrugs that hugged the shoulders like a second skin. — Anna Jane Davis
