Despite this season being mostly virtual because of Covid-19 lockdowns and travel restrictions, Fashion Week is in full swing and we’re here to keep you up-to-date on the key trends from it. Here are our key textile trends from Milan to key your eye on.

Tailoring

With a lot of discussions going on about the future of tailoring, Milan is presenting it in a relaxed, versatile context, where we are seeing classic suiting as well as elevated utility plains co-existing in that space, united with a comfort-first approach.

Prada underpins tailoring’s versatile direction by pairing fluid calendared qualities with technical knitwear, while the likes of Giada are using cotton sateens in timeless fluid long-over-long tailored looks

Sheers

As seen in our S/S 21 Textile Sourcing and Womenswear Forecasts, delicate sheers are still key for evening- and occasionwear, with featherlight chiffons and organzas continuing to display lingerie influences – a concept that of course remains relevant in our home-centric lifestyles. What is key here is how the versatility of these looks are re-nforced when paired with oversized blazers and cosy sweatshirts, as seen at No 21.

Artisanal Detailing

True to Milan, decorative elements such as openwork and embroideries are executed with exquisite atelier-level craftsmanship. Some of our favourites include Fendi’s organza ribbon embroideries and lazer-cut broderie anglaise. With the decline of other decorative surfaces such as lace and jacquards, this is definitely a direction to keep an eye on.
