NATURE VERSUS MAN
Paris: After a couple of seasons of slouchy yet elegant styles for the 21st Century man, designer Mihara Yasuhiro offered a S/S 11 full of “nature versus man” influences like lightweight techno fabrics, summertime layers and great outdoors-inspired digital prints. Always presenting a great show, Yasuhiro took it a step further this season by inviting Japanese design company WOW to create shadow plays that were cast against the back wall of the runway. The projected shapes underlined the salient feature of each look: for example, falling rain was created in shadow when a model walked out in a waterproof parka. The fusion of urban technology with country authenticity was fascinating, expressed with flannel-lined cotton suiting, cargo shorts cut from featherweight poplin, and denim work shirts mixed with digitally printed jackets and suede expedition boots.
