Moving away from the presentation format that has served him well in the past, Michael Bastian staged his first runway show. Typically known for his East Coast WASP references, the designer was inspired this time by the “masculinity and emotion” of Latin men. Other than the Virgin of Guadalupe showing up on a graphic tee, the “Latin flavor” was mostly apparent in the roguish styling and subtle authentic touches. Bastian’s trademark styles that express his love of boyish vulnerability were present — from the cut-off shorts with boxers peeking out, to the striped knits in primary colors. This chic spring-break look mixed in with the more dramatic, formal flair made for an exciting and rich collection.
