MIAMI: Piston Head
By Sarah Ryan Hecht

The top-level car park at 1111 Lincoln Road plays host to Piston Head: Artists Engage the Automobile for Art Basel.

Dec 06, 2013

The Herzog & de Meuron-designed, minimalist garage at 1111 Lincoln Road has become an Art Basel destination, brimming with events and pop-ups (like this year’s Colette x Alchemist Art Drive-Thru) since its opening in 2010. This week the top-level car park plays host to Piston Head: Artists Engage the Automobile, an exhibition of automobiles transformed into sculptures by leading contemporary artists. Presented by New York gallery Venus Over Manhattan and supported by Ferrari, displayed here is a range of works from prominent figures in the art world, like kitschier pieces from Keith Haring and Damien Hirst to a compressed emerald green Renault from French artist César. This unique exhibition is open to the public through Sunday. –Sarah Ryan Hecht
