Men’s Runways: Milan

Now that the menswear fashion shows have moved on to Paris, we pick out some of the key denim shows from Milan.

Prada focused on “uniforms from around the world” for S/S 11: exploring scrubs, postman’s uniforms and durable workwear. Denim was used for scrub-style tops worn over a shirt and tie of the same fabric.

Gianfranco Ferre also explored the concept of simplicity in loose, casual, effortless pieces. The tunic top was a major focus for the brand. Simple, clean lines and a crisp, satorialist look led to a refreshing summer collection.

For S/S 11, Gucci show notes indicated that haute-hippie icons like the Rolling Stones and Talitha and John Paul Getty, Jr. served as inspiration for this ‘Gypset’ look. Warm spice tones clashed with bright blue cast denims and embroidered embellishments.

Always great for denim, D+G put on a preppy, Ivy-league inspired collection with summery checks and Hawaiian style shirts sitting alongside well-loved denim staples: classic pleat-front shorts, rolled and patched old favorite jeans and the perfect chino.

For S/S 11, Dsquared2 used Richard Gere and his character in American Gigolo as their muse. Models perfectly embodied the swagger of the 70s with high-waisted jeans, suits that resembled Giorgio Armani’s in the original film and Riviera style shorts.
