MELBOURNE: Footwear With A Shot Of Whiskey
By Sarah Ryan Hecht

Double Monk is the swankiest new addition to Melbourne’s shoe shopping scene.

Double Monk is the swanky new addition to Melbourne’s shoe shopping scene. Opened by brothers Chris and Nick Schaerf, a former lawyer and a practicing doctor, this ultra-posh locale stocks bespoke footwear and top-shelf whiskey. The floors here are made from 19th century oak parquet floors shipped from Europe, while the grandiose interior is complete with horsehair-stuffed leather chairs and rolling library ladders. Showcased here are exclusive top-drawer models and made-to-order footwear, as well as a curated edit of classic labels like Crockett & Jones and Edward Green. The bar toward the back doubles as a shoeshine station. Naturally, whiskey and loafers go hand-in-hand. –Sarah Ryan Hecht

  • This shop truly is beautiful and inspiring. I love going in there to look at the gorgeous shoes with my husband and sons. It’s such a transporting experience once you step through those doors. Congratulations to the Schaerf brothers!
