Maurizio Pecoraro

Milan: Yet another designer to present a YSL-inspired collection, Maurizio Pecoraro is in good company. Like Laurent’s, Pecoraro’s tailored pieces were skillfully executed and flattering to the body. High-waisted pants fit perfectly, smoothly gliding over the models’ hips. Waistlines were a focal point; bright cummerbunds accentuated hip-slung bottoms, while wide bands of ribbon were primly tied at the natural waist for other looks. Embellishment was where some designs took a wrong turn. Sequins were used in excess, causing a few items to feel weighed down. While flower appliques looked charming for chokers, they were perhaps ill-advised for a pair of pinup briefs. Although not everything worked, the luxe boho looks the designer presented were on-trend. Referencing the great Yves Saint Laurent was an ambitious task, and perhaps the gravity of the late master’s work tripped Pecoraro up. The talented young designer would be well advised to focus on finding his own voice next season.
