London: Matthew Williamson’s bright and bombastic style took a trip to India for S/S 13, a common destination this season but one well-suited to the designer’s colorful aesthetic. Heavily worked mirrored embroidery and beading added dimension to halter mini-dresses embellished with chiffon tails, while sheer lace sleeves lightened boxy woven jackets. Illustrated prints depicting the mountains of Kerala and Tibet were a surprisingly artistic touch for Williamson and gave distinction to flowing wide-leg trousers as well as cropped caftan dresses. Between the ethnic patchwork, landscapes and ombré, the collection became a bit schizophrenic, but somehow Spring’s enthusiastic amalgamation worked.—Nina Stotler
