With each look styled using flapper head coverings and painted faces, John Galliano’s F/W 09 Dior collection was a modern rendition of Paul Poiret’s masterful style. A classic face-framing navy coat was simultaneously new and yet vintage with a dramatic swirled fur collar and large embroidered mandala graphics. Outerwear had a rounded dimensionality derived from structural ruby satin layered in folds. A silk chiffon dress was a delicate study in layers of sheer gold and was accompanied by a tasseled belt cinched at the waist with epaulet details. Exhibiting a touch of an Eastern influence, over-exaggerated silk harem pants were topped off with a fur vest interlaced with a velvet ribbon.
