London: Colour! So much gorgeous bright colour from Mary Katrantzou this season and her collaboration with Atelier Swarovski placed even more emphasis with added precious stones in vivid primary hues. Designers are on a nostalgic trip for S/S 18, delving into joyous childhood memories and for Katrantzou, her early years came played out in Perspex building blocks on bags rendered in colours of a Crayola rainbow. Paint-by-numbers appeared in oversized flowers on dresses and skirts while friendship ‘hama’ bracelets inspired the intricate beading embellishments. Silhouettes were new and modern in the application; bubbled hems were emphasised by toggle ended drawcords placed at the waist and gathered at the hem, elsewhere, hooded cagoules were added to dresses and skirts in colour blocked renditions. Outdoor pleasures of camping came in the form of bright nylon anoraks that saw colour caught at the end of a summer-shower rainbow. There was a lot to love about this very personal collection – after all, are we all still not children at heart? – Lizzy Bowring
