Marni Cruise/Resort 2013

QUIRKY INTELLECTUAL

New York: Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni can always be relied upon to put out playful yet intellectual looks, and for Cruise/Resort, she did it again. As usual, prints were a highlight. This season’s motifs included a wavy mesh pattern, micro starbursts with flowers, cookie cutter flowers on a background of wavy lines, and a range of texture prints. Other design details – beaded oval appliqués, gold studs, braided trim – were added to or styled with printed pieces for a quirky look. Castiglioni reprised signature styles, such as the boxy jackets that she has perfected over the years and slouchy pants, in both cropped and full-length versions. Offbeat accessories complemented each look. Bags borrowed studs from the clothing, chunky loafers featured color blocking, and jeweled flowers were suspended from necklaces with gold rods. –Joanna Manganaro
