Milan: Spare shapes and innovative patterns are the name of the game at Marni, and this season designer Consuelo Castiglioni delivered more of her coveted smart-chic looks. Though boxy separates in geometric prints were standard fare, Castiglioni also offered hourglass silhouettes, which were new for the label. Slim sheaths and matched sets hugged the curves of the body, and bedazzled sleeves added a dressed-up element. The designer has a knack for making fur seem luxe yet unostentatious; this season a color-blocked forest green and brown version was a particular standout. Bonded leather pieces appeared near the end of the show in the round-shoulder shapes that have been so prevalent in Milan thus far. Always appealing in a brainy way, Marni’s subtle sophisticated turn was a positive innovation.
