WHIMSICAL AT WORK
New York: Marissa Webb’s debut collection of tough yet feminine looks proves why she has successfully spent the past decade as women’s designer at J. Crew. Pulling inspiration from contrasting elements and juxtaposing them, Webb offered a variety of pleated dresses and blouses partnered with zippered vests or tailored blazers, and made otherwise girly pieces, such as full skirts and leggings, look edgy in sleek leather. A limited palette of black and white was predominate, energized with shots of chartreuse, teal and red, and printed tie-dye made for a quirky take on work-appropriate bow blouses and pencil skirts. Webb’s highly wearable pieces offered a new spin on her signature Contemporary style. — Marissa Stuart
