Milan’s new business district Porta Nuova is gaining importance on the city’s fashion circuit, with a number of stores moving into the burgeoning area, which lies just north of prime shopping street Corso Como.
With limited space and soaring rents in Milan’s central Quadrilatero district, Porta Nuova is fast becoming an alternate luxury hotspot, having already welcomed brands such as Costume National, Les Hommes, Christian Louboutin and DSquared2. Replay is also set to open a 1,500sq m concept store there next year.
Most recently, Maison Martin Margiela chose Porta Nuova’s main shopping street Via Vincenzo Capelli for its first ever boutique dedicated to accessories, cementing the area’s reputation as an up-and-coming destination for luxury brands. The 775sq ft store carries the brand’s footwear, bags, jewellery, fragrances, eyewear and small leather goods for men and women, as well as a selection of design objects. The interior reflects the brand’s signature minimalism, with a white backdrop, mirrored ceilings and trompe l’oeil rugs covering a polished concrete floor.
