London: Refined classics, exquisitely cut, this was the simple message put forward by Howell’s latest collection, which celebrated – as always – beautiful menswear pieces in their own right. The designer’s signature minimalist styling allowed each item’s beauty to shine through individually – among them came a pair of high-waisted pleated trousers, a boxy linen t-shirt, a crisp revere-collared resort shirt and clean-fronted mackintoshes. It was easy to see the craftsmanship in every piece, which was highlighted further by the use of contrast colour – black and dark denim tops and jackets were paired with stark white trousers, whilst khaki, camel and stone-coloured t-shirts and anoraks lifted black shorts and shirts. Extremely subtle proportion play added newness to the otherwise traditional classics – slightly rounded shoulders, high-waists and boxy tops drove the silhouette. – Laura Yiannakou
