AS THE ROMANS DO
Milan: Marco de Vincenzo’s F/W 12 collection highlighted his technical abilities, as well as his penchant for romance. Sturdy leathers were masterfully manipulated, pieced, paneled, stitched and sculpted into hourglass jackets and boxy coats, and insets that imitated darts and ran between seam lines contoured tailored woolen garments. Hazy, hand-painted shading bordered windowpane patterns created by artful constructions, and a swirling marble motif spoke to the designer’s Roman roots, where he found inspiration this season. —Whitney Kessler
