It’s that time of year again folks! Today marks the kick off of March Madness and the NCAA tournament. Hopefully you all have gotten your brackets in and are now eagerly awaiting tip off. We here on the Active Team love this time of year not only for the underdog stories and stars that emerge, but for the amazing product, seasonal trends and excitement that surrounds the tournament itself. Also exciting in our eyes is the diversity within the product offerings this year.

First up, leading the pack sponsoring 48 of 52 teams (that’s 76%) in the tournament this year is Nike. With a classic twist on the jerseys by replacing the school name on the chest with the larger logo, the look is a modern while not being a dramatic departure. This kit also includes special footwear for each team.

Right on the former’s heels are the much talked about adidas kits released just in time for the Big East tournament. Polarizing and risk-taking, adidas approached March Madness with bright colors and an aggressive Basketball Camo print. With a product range from apparel to shoes to bags, it truly makes a statement. Even some of the most traditional teams (we’re looking at you Notre Dame) have pushed boundaries we haven’t seen done before.

What would the NCAA tournament be however, without inspiring basketball fans outside of its own realm with the craziness that ensues? One of our favorite fan-fare demonstrations this year was the March Mad Men video put out by the group Official Comedy (and obviously advertising the return of Mad Men in April).

“March Madness meets Mad Men. Don Draper, Roger Sterling, Ken Cosgrove, Peggy Olson, Pete Campbell, Betty Francis, and Bert Cooper have a lot at stake, and things are getting stressful. Who will win this year’s pool at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce?”

We also love seeing other parts of the industry getting in on the fun. Golfer Travis Matthew hosted a tournament this year on its site, with golf apparel from its signature line up for grabs to the best brackets!

We hope you are all getting in on the fun in one way or anther, and best of luck to the teams from everyone here at Stylesight. Let the games begin!
