FUTURISTIC FLAPPER
New York: As usual, there were vintage-inspired looks and throwback themes at Marc Jacobs; jazzy flapper styles reflected an obvious 1920s reference point this season. Drop-waisted silhouettes, headbands and fringe straightforwardly recalled the decade’s fashions, but tech-y high-shine materials made for ensembles that felt ultra-modern and unconventional. Classic gingham patterns were printed in giant scales and trompe l’oeil details, like sheer fabric appliqués that mimicked ruffles, added elements of wit. –Whitney Kessler
