Marc Jacobs – feminine, polished and a ‘little undone’

New York: Marc Jacobs presented his Pre-Summer collection in the Mercer Street store to a select few in the early hours of the morning. Always a stickler for time efficiencies, he began a little before the allotted schedule due to the early arrival of some dedicated clients. The showing began with models wearing headscarves and severely painted brows, and to this end what unfurled was a tongue in cheek extension of his Fall collection.  Primarily in a palette of striking black and white with bold contrasts of sharp red, ladylike silhouettes were adorned with excessive embellishments and cut in the most lavish of materials. Broderie anglaise, St. Gallen lace, shimmering taffeta – were meticulously decorated with oversized crystals, grommets, and embroideries. Everything from sweatshirts and hoodies to beautiful little mini coats in red and white to a tweed coat worn over a full lamé skirt had some adornment. As for the eveningwear, a vignette of sensuous column dresses was artfully rendered with abstract brushstrokes of a floral nature, completing an extremely chic and seductive outing. – Lizzy Bowring
