Marc JacobsMarc Jacobs may have sent out a collection for Spring full of vibrant colour, exaggerated prints and enormous Turbans but there were some seriously commercial, of-the-moment pieces. Opening in silence, models walked on the wooden floors at the Park Avenue Armory returning for the finale to the aria from the French film ‘Diva’ which perhaps, lent some parallels to the collection.
Jacobs delved back into his past with his program notes stating “…a reimagining of the seasons past somewhere beyond the urban landscape of New York City.” There was no doubt that this was a joyous presentation with gorgeous bright colour opening the show – a super oversized orange blazer giving way to a vibrant pink head-to-toe outfit. Everything was oversized, from signature daisies with a 70s ring to Fanny packs (that sported the word ‘somewhere’) and oversized totes.
The sports theme appeared in easy trackpants, belted at the waist, sports sandals, (replacing the teetering platforms of previous seasons) and transparent lightweight parkas. The beaded tops, bold psychedelic print harem pants and the yellow beaded evening gown that closed the show were an exotic finale to an energized presentation. – Lizzy Bowring
