New York: Marc Jacobs continues to move forward, making his secondary line more sophisticated while still maintaining the youthful edge for which it’s known. The S/S 11 collection softened last season’s mismatched patterns – this time in a neutral-driven palette with occasional bursts of rusty orange. Striped knits brought energy to solid basics like loose-fitting chinos, heather grey sweatshirts and pleated shorts. Although the collection was refined, whimsy pervaded with pieced sweaters, Johnny-collar tees, a utility shirt in a lemon sorbet shade and a sleeveless trench coat. The Marc by Marc guy is getting older and wiser, but he hasn’t given up his optimistic outlook on fashion.
