New York: It’s obvious that Marc Jacobs was on a 70s kick when conceptualizing the S/S 11 collections of his namesake labels. The girls who walked the runway for Marc by Marc Jacobs could have been the little sisters of the Studio 54 vixens seen at the Marc Jacobs show. Wearing boyish stripes, jumpsuits, and frizzy hairdos, the models were the picture of 70s spunk. The retro style proved to be the perfect foil for playing with this season’s trend of mixing athletic items with fashion-driven pieces. Straw cross-body bags were trimmed in sporty highlighter hues, and sneakers were pumped up with heels. Playful one-pieces were featured in a range of silhouettes, and culottes were favored over skirts. Feminine elements, like a ditsy floral pattern, were balanced by striped tomboy tees. Stacks of chunky bangle bracelets accented nearly every ensemble and a punchy throwback color palette of tangerine orange, pool blue, and primary yellow complemented boy scout khakis and crisp white shirtings. Although more youthful and casual, the models exuded the same sassy hipness as did their more sophisticated counterparts, earlier in the week.
