Marc by Marc Jacobs

New York: Marc Jacobs reinvented familiar territory for himself, digging into his nerd-chic fantasies to deliver schlumpy-cool suits in teacher-style plaid or vintage-style boat stripes, all updated with straight, baggy trousers that evoked 90s kids trying on their dad’s clothes. He also showed utility pants, complete with hammer loops, another nod to 90s boy style, and a variety of tartans and plaids, most notably a dark tartan on a lovely overcoat. Turtlenecks showed up too, in luxurious knits, while monotone silk satin suits shined like a Puff Daddy video. Jacobs topped off his ensembles with gold chains and rings, and pre-soiled suede sneakers, all adding a slightly gauche, but ultimately campy cool to the whole affair. –Andrew Luecke
