New York: Marc by Marc Jacobs is always a bright spot on the NYFW calendar. The optimistic, youthful looks on display this season did not disappoint. The collection was full of playful piecing and vibrant tones of royal blue, poppy, and kelly green, mixed with soft pales. A bright pattern featuring skulls and turntables recalled the 80s, Jacobs’ favorite decade, and the stripes that characterized his main line’s show last night appeared in dusty blue and tan, rather then the jarring black and white, for paper bag waist shorts and roomy pants. Colorful scarves were wrapped around each model’s head and worn as sashes around the waist or looped around the neck. The styling, in addition to the prevalence of piecing, created the image of a glamorous street urchin, who used found items and grandma’s scarves to create a unique look. –Joanna Manganaro
