Marc by Marc Jacobs

New York: In a F/W 12 assortment that felt quintessentially Marc by Marc, the design team behind Marc Jacobs’ little sister label edged-up schoolgirl silhouettes by styling them with military-inspired accessories and outerwear, making for rugged-feminine juxtapositions that conjured the grunge looks of Jacobs’ early collections. Masculine tailored coats were belted over full-skirted frocks and roomy wool trousers were stuffed into combat boots. Boyish stripes, checks and color-blocked motifs balanced pretty florals and polka-dots, while cozy velvets and furs softened crisp cottons and sturdy woolens. —Whitney Kessler
