In a refreshing turn from last season’s Animal Kingdom theme, Manish Arora harnessed his intricate handwork for an interesting look at the mysteries of the human body. Possibly inspired by the groundbreaking Bodies… the Exhibition, which examines the complexities that lie beneath the skin, he emphasized strong shoulders with padding and harnesses in organic shapes, and articulated skeletal structures with placed beading and appliqués. Steel grey sequins covered dresses and knee-length jumpsuits, while gradated paillettes that ranged from silver dollar-sized discs to tiny black sequins created a spangled ombré effect for slim trousers. Continuing to connect to the internal body, tissue pink, blood red and orange swatches of satin were inlaid on black pieces to create organ-like motifs; other patterns suggested Russian Constructivist geometry. Faceted jewels and bits of clear plastic decorated protective helmets for these inside-out warriors.
