Maison & Objet: A Pineapple Feast

From Frankfurt to Paris, from Heimtextil to Maison & Objet, the tropics are still strongly driving print and pattern direction this January. It is even colder than Frankfurt outside here in Paris, therefore some bright and lush jungle scenery is very welcome to lift up the mood.

If flamingos, parrots and toucans still flutter around wall art and textiles, it is pineapples here that really take the spotlight. Printed, embroidered, crocheted, sculpted out of various materials or even used in real life: the juicy tropical fruit takes over the scene and becomes a recurring decorative element.

Ceramic and metal work well to render the spiky texture of the pineapple skin in detail, making for quirky decorative pieces and unexpected lighting details. Strength is numbers, and the use of many pineapples on the table heightens the exotic look, while glossy bright colours, crochet and rhinestone add a kitsch touch to the picture.
