New York: The designers at Maison Martin Margiela stayed true to the house’s minimalist history with this season’s collection. If it felt a bit lifeless, at least it was of a piece with the work of Margiela himself, which the designers have strayed from in some of their past collections. Columnar dresses, simple boxy tees, and elongated jackets were enticing in their spare style. Drawstring pants were more relaxed. Cool tones of lavender, slate, taupe, and, of course, black harmonized with the clean-lined looks. On a recent trip to Brazil, the designer team picked up a handful of vintage pieces from the 1960s and 70s that they remade for the current season. A sequin-embellished blazer and a shawl-collared jacket were among the pieces, marked “Replica” on the tag, that were derived from the vintage items. –Joanna Manganaro
