The Magic of Gucci Resort 2018: A Renaissance in Florence

GUCCI CRUISE 18 FIRENZE 29 MAY 2017

It is one of the most in demand shows each season now, thanks to the magic of Alessandro Michele. But one wonders how he will keep evolving the message to dazzle both Instagram and luxury consumers. The answer came with the latest Gucci Resort 2018 collection, which took over the Palatina Gallery at Palazzo Pitti in Florence and probably all of your social media accounts at the weekend.

The historic setting blended perfectly with the clothes, and the accessories that tapped into our current fever for personalization, embroidery and meme culture- offering up over 100 looks for both men and women.  Michele is concerned primarily with making clothes that make a statement, and in this ever saturated luxury world it’s a challenge to attract a new crowd, while keeping the classic accessories that your staple consumer is looking for, yet he manages both. As Lizzy Bowring, WGSN’s Catwalk Director put it, Michele uses social media as a way of creating desire in an instant for the lens of social media, while also making sure it’s a cohesive collection, rendering pieces that will be keepsakes for the future.
