A Catwalk Minute: Pure magic and alchemy in Gucci Pre-Summer 2019

Gucci Pre-Summer 2019: Arles, France

Alessandro Michele presented his Gucci Resort collection within the Alyscamps, a Roman necropolis standing proud outside the famed city of Arles, which is also home to the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh and annual Rencontres d’Arles summer photography festival.

Michele explained that,  “All the places I travel to for cruise also belong to my personal story. They are heartfelt places, which have a lot of meaning to me. Nothing is accidental,”

And this was no accidental or ordinary event, it was simply spectacular with all the carefully curated pomp and circumstance that befits Alessandro Michele’s creative energy.

A line of fire travelled the centre of the walkway while ‘Vespers for the Blessed Virgin’ played in the background. Candlelight and whirling smoke provided the eerie ambience and cast macabre dancing shadows as silhouettes, layered with gorgeous collectible pieces sailed into the night light.

Velvet dresses, intricately embroidered flowing capes, layered skirts, gorgeous florals – printed and appliqued – and a never ending eclectic offering of fantastical clothing, albeit with semblances of Gothic and Neo-classicism influences, overflowed into the ethereal evening – Lizzy Bowring
