Yesterday we made a trip to the S/S12 Luxottica Press Day in London, and were met with a slick presentation of some of the most covetable eyewear collections for the season, confirming trend directions from our previous Forecast and analysis reports.
The collections from Prada, Miu Miu, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith, Versace, and Ray-Ban were particular favorites, featuring stand-out styles as seen the catwalk and their new more wearable adaptations.

The most exciting and innovative styles included new materials, finished, embellishment details and definite, striking silhouettes.
We loved the new Versace logo lenses, an eyewear design detail we have been tracking for some time.
Matte finish frames at Prada, Miu Miu and Stella feel new for the season, and have an understated luxury appeal whether in rich tortoiseshell or brushed metal.
Warm honey and neutral cosmetic colored eyewear are also a new addition to collections from Burberry, Prada, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith, signaling a transition to more tonal rather than color pop looks for next Summer.
Vintage research underscores many of the new shape directions for both Women and Men, with a number of specific eras inspiring designers, the circular specs of the 30s, the 50s cat-eyes, and 60s masculine sporty styles. The Ray-Ban folded wayfarers are a unique, retro 70s line that is sure to appeal to the Juniors and Young Men’s markets.
New shaped temple bars are a detail trend we also picked up on at the recent Silmo trade show, and are an interesting consideration, particularly for Women’s frames.
All collections are due to hit retail early next year.
