Milan: Luciano Soprani’s S/S 11 season stuck to the label’s mainstream wearability, while also casting a vote for the new minimalism. Clean shift dresses featuring creative color blocking, as well as acid-bright silk frocks with a subtle floral print, are right in line with the rest of the market. More interesting were ensembles focused on ever-popular summer leathers, both for flirtatious skater skirts and modern, pieced coats. High necklines and fully buttoned collars keep the mood demure but not severe, while a spray of metallic embellishment across the chest of a crisp white blouse provides a touch of edgy glamor. Flats were an interesting footwear choice throughout, bringing both a casual and youthful direction to the entire collection. As even the traditionally rich and dramatic Milan runways take a step toward austerity, fashion as a whole is definitely cleaning house.
