Louis Vuitton’s Globetrotting Gang

Paris: “I’ve been to 15 countries already this year,” said designer Kim Jones, backstage at the Serres du Parc André Citroen, which had been transformed into a night club, vibrating under the live sounds of disco-funk legend, Nile Rodgers. “We wanted to look at how styles share so much globally – how identities migrate.” he added. And so came a globetrotting culture clash, a line up introduced by rainbow-hued satin souvenir jackets (which are quickly becoming this seasons must have!) embroidered with Indonesian birds of paradise, Japanese cranes and Lemur monkeys –East Asia meets 50’s American Varsity. The party continued with exquisite denim numbers – 50’s jockey jackets, boiler suits and straight leg jeans – cut in a glossy silk-denim blend with a textural red, white and blue appliqué, evoking the Vuitton logo. Vuitton’s boys had an almost cult-like appeal; Silk scarfs wrapped tightly around their necks with the Louis Vuitton branding. No doubt this collection will assume such status; Vuitton’s latest offerings will immediately appeal to a global and more experimental audience. Join the gang, we have neck-ties. – Anna Ross
