New York: Women’s design director Julie de Libran and creative director Marc Jacobs looked to Catherine Deneuve’s characters in Mississippi Mermaid and Indochine for inspiration for the current Louis Vuitton collection. Channeling the star’s elegance and sophistication, they presented desirable ensembles, many with a 1970s feel. Crisp stovepipe pants, midi skirts and clunky platform shoes evoked the era. Culottes, a big story for Cruise/Resort, were presented in just-below-the-knee and mid-calf versions. Eyelet blouses, some with ruffled plackets, added a sweet, feminine element, while colorful fur pieces and sequins felt quirky yet glamorous. The playful mix of geometric patterns, leopard prints and foulard motifs harmonized with the 70s inspirations. Long-over-long silhouettes looked particularly right, with thigh-grazing tunics styled over culottes, pants, or longer skirts. –Joanna Manganaro
