Opening this weekend is David Arsham‘s solo exhibition at the OHWOW Gallery, which explores the relationship between artifact and Pop Art. Working in both sculpture and two-dimensional pieces, Arsham employs terra firma such as obsidian, quartz, volcanic ash and glacial dust. Recontextualizing objects familiar to American consumerism and big business, expect to see Goodyear tires, NBA basketballs and McDonald’s signage. While these logos feel modern day, the materials used to render them leave the impression of found historical artifacts of a civilization past. In this, Arsham questions the inevitable demise of modern day culture.
