Los Angeles-based artist Doug Aitken examines the modern landscape in his solo exhibition Still Life at Regen Projects. The exhibition features new works by the artist, including installations, sculpture, light boxes and the text-based pieces for which he is known. Aitken plays with light and reflection from a kaleidoscopic view of the sprawling and interlinking LA freeway system to a glowing pay phone artifact which brightens or dims based on the viewer’s proximity. Works feature mundane objects and scenes recontextualised, underscored by declarative words carrying inherent weight and meaning and are quietly reflective in nature. – Chris Tsuyuki
