The calendar may say it’s fall, but the summer vibe will be going strong in Echo Park this weekend for Filter Magazine’s Culture Collide festival. This four-day event is like a musical Benetton ad, with many of the artists hailing from countries other than the United States. It’s a refreshing twist on the usual line-up, and some seriously great acts will be gracing our soil with their presence. Multiple venues are participating, from the biggest club in the neighborhood to the tiniest record store, culminating in an epic outdoor block party on Sunday. Culture Collide kicked off last night with an inspiring live set from Spanish DJ John Talabot, and the fun contines tonight with performances from British electro-rock duo The Big Pink, shoegaze heroes School of Seven Bells, and the dramatic vocal stylings of Zola Jesus. Saturday, be sure to catch either Niki & The Dove or Icona Pop (either way you’ll be seeing a fiercely fashionable Swedish pop duo) and then get wild with headliners of Montreal. On Sunday at the block party, stuff yourself with food truck treats and rock out yet again with the pansexual party of a band that is of Montreal and Brit rockers The Wombats. That’s my plan!
