London’s Top Drawer launches kidswear edit: PLAY

Top Drawer is the UK’s destination trade show for design-led lifestyle and gifting products. This season, they announced that were adding kidswear to the mix, with the section set to be called PLAY. The creators of the show describe PLAY as ‘responding to changes in the retail landscape, where creative stockists continue to diversify and broaden their offering’.

The trade show focuses on close-to-season, with brands showing their Christmas 2018 ranges for speed-to-market appeal. The brands featured the latest kids trends with plenty of glitter, metallics and character faces for the A/W 18 season, linking back to our kidswear forecasts, Kids’ Forecast A/W 18/19: Dark Wonder.

Top Drawer demonstrated how to successfully curate the area, with a clear section for PLAY, a positive atmosphere and a good mix of new and more established labels. We checked out the show, which ran 9-11 September at London Olympia and picked some of our favourite kids gifting brands.

Billie loves Audrey is an accessories label encapsulating the magic and imagination of children. Their playful character bags include cats with crowns, velvet rabbits, flamingos and shooting stars, along with socks and hair accessories, ideal for the gifting market.

William and the Wolf is a new brand offering handmade, contemporary unisex kids clothing. Oeko-tex certified cotton is used on wovens, along with organic cotton for the jersey items, all designed in a unisex palette. Their Growing-Green initiative aims to do-their-bit to cut textile waste through a scheme offering vouchers in exchange for used clothing. The items are washed, repaired and resold on the site at a discounted rate.

Swedish brand Elodie Details showcased their A/W 18 collection, inspired by the valleys of the Himalayas and the traditional textile crafts that pay homage to the area, linking to, users click here: Kids’ Forecast A/W 18/19: HumaNature. A vibrant mix of prints and colours feature on beanies and soft accessories along with cosy fur strollers.

Ruckahula is an accessories brand packed with fun and quirkiness. Featured in our Instagram’s That Inspire report, their eye-catching designs stood out at the show – along with their bright, neon sign! We particularly liked their dinosaur hairclips and leopard-print beret.

Kidcase Home has changed name to ‘home by Door’, separating out from the Kidscase family but keeping its signature scandi-cool handwriting. Along with contemporary check blankets and soft toys for the home, the range included core layette pieces, sleep-wear and soft accessories.

A few other well known kidswear brands exhibited at the show including super-soft jersey brand Bob and Blossom and the beautifully embroidered brand Hannah & Tiff, in addition to many toy and home brands.

The S/S 19 show sets to be bigger, running 13-15 January 2019.
