London: With the opening of it’s new flagship store on Old Bond Street the Italian house presented a collection inspired by London and all it’s facets including Cecil Beaton’s iconic photography of Britain during World War II. From the shadowy environs of Hackney to glamorous Mayfair, the contrast was translated with understated luxury into pinstripe looks layered in capes, pyjamas and dressing gowns, styled with leather boxing shorts, mink head guard hats and mittens – channeling the fighting spirit of the boxing clubs. Abstract photorealistic floral prints resembled delightful summer days in Kensington Gardens and Victoria Park with its blooming peonies and roses. Long tailored jackets with high waist wide leg trousers featuring an elastic cummerbund married Max Mara’s excellent tailoring and outerwear with the athleisure ease of London’s east. – Christa Kaufmann
