Currently on show at the V&A is a retrospective of German photographer Horst P. Horst, a leading photographer of the 20th century. The exhibition displays more than 250 photographs alongside haute couture garments, magazine covers, sketchbooks, film footage and more, exploring his work across photography, art, fashion, design, theatre and high society. Additionally, lesser-known pieces of the photographer’s work are on display in the form of nudes, travel photographs and patterns created from natural beings, as well as his many sources of inspiration from Bauhaus to surrealism in 1930s Paris. Horst was renowned for his dramatic use of light and shadow, as well as his skilled compositions and experimental colour techniques, and this exhibition will no doubt inspire future fashion editorials. –Emily Cater
