She was once quoted as saying “old is the new black” and she has more modelling jobs now than she ever did in the 1960s. WGSN Womenswear Editor Robbie Sinclair charts the rise of this icon
As part of our monthly Icon series, I’ve been looking at the models and tastemakers who stand out from the crowd. Sometimes the world of fashion and style can get a bit cookie cutter, with everyone looking the same and wearing the same uniform. That’s why I love it when someone comes on the scene offering that something special.
For me Linda Rodin was an obvious choice, and the fact that she’s fronted so many campaigns this year proves her magic touch, and that consumers are desperate for something fresh, new and out of the ordinary.
Here’s five reasons she’s a fashion maven.
1. **UPDATE: Linda has a new lipstick collection, race you to the checkout.
Coming this spring 2016, the fashion star with a penchant for a bold lip colour, is giving us all the chance to rock her new lipstick line. Rodin’s new lipstick line is set to be a blend of her signature oils, be bright in colour, and long-lasting, so your lips will stay moisturised while looking fantastic all day long. We can’t wait for this collection to launch, luckily the collection is available for pre-order now.
2. In her mid-60s, Rodin has become the archetype for aging gracefully and still keeps a strong sense of style
Despite the fact that some retailers ignore women over a certain age, Rodin has refused to disappear into the background with muted grey colours. She continues to rock vibrant colours and force designers to see and create styles for older women who love fashion. Also, she wears accessories, they don’t wear her. From her statement glasses to her chunky necklaces, she knows the power of a good accessory to make an outfit.

3. She’s changed the definition of a model
Rodin’s career has come almost full circle. Having started out as model in Italy at 18, she now has more modelling jobs than she ever did in the 1960s. Rodin has fronted campaigns for J Crew, Karen Walker and The Row.

4. Her street style is showstopping
She came to our attention thanks to the fashion blog Advanced Style, that celebrates older men and women with fabulous style. In an age where street style has become a uniform of the camel coat, blue jeans and Chanel style court shoes, her ever-changing, colourful outfits stand out from the norm.
5. Her attitude is strong
Linda is smart, hardworking and stands for something. She created her anti-aging beauty company back in 2007, selling originally out of her own apartment. The entrepreneur is gutsy, and someone we all want to be friends with.
