We’ve been hearing rumors and rumblings for quite some time about famed rapper, Lil Wayne, launching his very own skateboard apparel collection. After all, it only seems natural considering he has been spotted at skateparks all over the U.S. this past year, fine tuning his new found skills on a board — and from what we have heard, he’s extremely passionate about shredding and can’t get enough of it! And vice versa from the skate community…everyone is game on seeing him get on a skateboard.
Last week was the official release for the drop of Trukfit and, of course, it was filled with festivities and parties…a’la Lil Wayne style…
First up on the agenda, was, well at Agenda…where the line debuted for the industry-at-large. Then is was off to the now legendary and annual, Zumiez 100K party in Colorado, held this year on Tuesday, January 10th 2012. Lil Wayne surprised partygoers with an appearance – jaws dropped and everyone was beyond stoked. Along with Karmaloop.com, Zumiez will be the one of the first stores in the US to carry Trukfit, both at its brick and mortar locations and online.
Next up…Lil Wayne headed to New York City on Thursday night, January 12th to host a private viewing party where models – made to look like silver mannequins – donned his new gear. The collection is filled with basics like graphic tees adorned with youthful imagery and skate references – all in a primary color palette of red, green, yellow and blue. Wayne though, came through in a neon pink tee and matching baseball cap.
Everyone had a blast, including mogul Russell Simmons, NYC skate shop owner Amy Gunther of KCDC, and in town from the West Coast, action sports Über-agent, Circe Wallace who happens to rep one of the best skateboarders in town, Paul Rodriguez, aka…P-Rod.
And on top of everything, Wayne has found the time to launch a new web series called “Weezy’s Sports Corner”, cementing him in “sports pop culture” forever…you can thank us later. – Jessica Kaplan
