Debuting tonight on FX, Lights Out has been creating quite a stir within the industry. Boxing has been a huge influencer within the market…we have seen elements and ring-side details popping up on the runway as well as on the streets (think grey sweats and layered shorts and leggings). Although the show references classic boxing films such as Rocky, Raging Bull and The Cinderella Man, the producer of Lights Out notes that the series avoids clichés and shines a light on the realistic, personal struggle, of being a boxer.
In anticipation and excitement for the show, FX hosted an exhibition match at Grand Central Station within its Vanderbilt Hall last week with boxers from Main Street Boxing. It was so surreal to see a ring full of boxers juxtaposed with a station full of commuters, both fighting their way towards the last round or in the case of the commuters, the last stop.
Former Heavyweight Cahmpions, Joe Frazier and Larry Holmes were in attendance along with boxing greats Wladimir Klitschko, Lenox Lewis (who is soooo tall) and Gerry Cooney. Lights Out main star, Holt McCallany who plays former heavyweight champion, Patrick “Lights” Leary in the show, also joined in the festivities.
Not to be missed, check it out tonight!
