Clockwise L to R: It Happened One Night (1934); Julian Schabel; Ryan Gosling at Cannes (May ’11); Rear Window (1954); Salvatore Ferragamo S/S 11; Bespoken S/S 11; Band of Outsiders S/S 11
Ryan Gosling has always been on our radar when it comes to doing things his way. Much like his idol James Dean, the actor is constantly impressing by showing up to red carpet events illustrating how to do menswear trends in a kick ass way. At the Cannes Film Festival last week, Gosling showed up in a piped pajama shirt, ivory cotton pants and navy and white spectator shoes — by far one of our favorite looks of the week.
Just last October, Stylesight did a Trend Alert on Leisure Living after collections like Band of Outsiders, Bespoken and Dolce & Gabbana showed a preference for pajamas in the daytime — the ultimate expression of a luxe lifestyle. Of course, artist Julian Schabel and his laid back uniform continues to inspire as well.
Will the upcoming S/S 12 men’s runway shows hint at even more leisurely style? If our Runway Roadmap Blue Period is any indication, there is sure to be a lot more pajama play ahead for next season.
