London: The TOMMYNOW ROCK CIRCUS Runway Show.
A rock circus along with flying acrobats! And if that was not enough, there were even burgers and doughnuts served just to get you in the mood. What was there not to love about the Tommy Hilfiger and Gigi Hadid extravaganza last night, held at the legendary Camden Roundhouse – a venue that is as quintessentially famous as the legendary rock stars that have performed there – The Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd. The resounding energy and pure showmanship were the penultimate closure to a fast-paced London Fashion week, where at Hilfiger’s show, True Brit Grit met a rebellious take on 90’s heritage. But then again, it depends which side of the pond you live on, this could be a vision of modern America where youth culture and grunge meet prep influences – or British tradition with a street style twist.
Let’s talk about the clothes…Gigi Hadid rocked out to the sound of a 90’s hip-hop soundtrack wearing cut-off denim shorts, a midriff-baring top along with a giant padlock (memories of Sid Vicious come to mind) and a fabulous statement-making tartan coat – festival ready – closely followed by both Jagger girls Lizzy and Georgia May – how close to rockstar status can you get? Models sported sexy over the knee socks and buckled ankle boots that could have been from the film Clueless or yet again, St. Trinian’s, either way, …there were unexpected proportions and influences of athleisure and skate seen in a flirty abbreviated tartan skirt, frayed at the hem. Sexy slip dresses came refigured in tartan and sheer of the moment long tartan coatdresses, billowing in the fast-paced presentation. All of this and more, along with tremendous outerwear items – try the long velvet coat or the giant puffa in a stunning shade of purple or the tartan jackets and as for those sequinned numbers – rock and roll ready to party!
